Mirchi Get Active Expo

With a few days left for the Tata Mumbai Marathon, the Mirchi Get Active Expo spread out lavishly at the MMRDA Grounds of Mumbai to instill excitement among runners. Mammoth sized letters that spelled #BeBetter, which was the marathons official hashtag greeted everyone entering the expo. The expo looked like a Runners Disney World, with brands like ASICS and Decathlon spoiling the crowd with discounted prices. Other brands like the Tata Motors used this opportunity to create a life-sized Running Wheel that calculates your speed and number of steps to launch their upcoming range, the Tata Altroz. Other Brands like Fast and Up gave the exhausted crowd samples of their various energy beverages and gels and a whole range of products they could buy for race day. The organizers of the marathon also arranged a large screen for runners to display their Personal Bests and the list of marathons they’ve run. With BIRA being one of the sponsors, you could find a very busy mascot, wearing a monkey head and being stopped for selfies every few minutes.

Race Day

Sore legs, content hearts and a wall of memories to take back. This is how most attending the 2020 Tata Mumbai Marathon felt by the end of the race. On the early morning of 19th January 2020, a crowd of 55,000 people assembled for one purpose, running the Tata Mumbai Marathon. As we got down from the Church Gate Station, we immediately became part of the carnivalesque crowd of runners taking part in the Dream Run category of the race. It took us a while to recognize the roads of the otherwise over-crowded city, that some saw as a marathon route and others, an opportunity to voice out. The ‘Dream Run,’ also called the ‘Fun Run,’ had over 19,000 people echoing each other’s energy while volunteers passed cut oranges and water to the more earnest runners of the crowd. Special bylanes gave uninterrupted access to runners of the marathon and the half marathon. The route ultimately led them to the finish line and then the resting ground where you could find a field of weary yet proud runners collecting their medals from the race. Runners of the Full marathon ran till the Grand Stand, which also held the stage for the ultimate prize distribution of the winners.
