The 12th edition of Procam International’s TCS World 10k race, is here with new surprises and challenges for marathoners.
Train harder. Eat healthier. Push your boundaries.
It’s just around the corner – the captivating TCS World 10K will kick off on 19thMay 2019 from Bengaluru’s very own Kanteerava Stadium.
For 11 years now, the TCS World 10K run has been drawing elite runners and amateurs alike to the garden city like a moth to the flame.
Vivek Singh, Joint Managing Director Procam International summed it nicely, “With over 170 running events in and around Bengaluru, the running capital of India is now Bengaluru. It was known for education, it was known for its Information Technology, what people now are waking up to is the running capital of India- Bengaluru and that I think is absolutely fabulous.”
The run’s biggest sponsor so far has been TCS that has had a 10-year relationship with the run. Nagraj Ijari, Vice President & Head, TCS Bangalore Operations says, “We are always excited to be back – and this year is even more special because this year we celebrate our tenth year of being associated with this event. An association we feel that has gone by so fast.” Continuing he added, “Within TCS we also take fitness very seriously, and have multiple initiatives that support that vision including Fit for Life, that encourages a lot of people to clock miles, and last financial year our Bangalore offices clocked about 2.3 million km among all our associates in Bangalore and are confident in doubling the number with 4.6 million km already registered.”
This year, in its 12thedition, Procam International is hoping to attract an even larger crowd of elite runners as well as enthusiastic amateurs from across all ages and across the world.
To this end, they have made a few additions to this year’s race:
- #FeelthePride is the campaign theme for this year focusing on Bengaluru holding the prestige of hosting an IAAF Gold Label race
- The much-loved ‘Majja’ run is now re-introduced as a timed category
- New partners have been brought on board –
- ASICS as the sports goods partner will provide finisher tees for the first 1000 open 10K finishers.
- NatureValley has come onboard as the Recharge partner
- Fast & Up is the energy drink partner for the race
- Oakley is the performance eyewear partner for the run
- GoDaddy is the domains and online presence partner and
- Help-Age India will be supporting the senior citizens’ category
#FeelthePride– let’s say that out loud!
The Bengalureans are super proud of hosting this event as it brings together two elements they love – the sport and its spirit. The run is much more than just being a leading event on the running calendar, it is also a well-known charity platform. In fact, it is the largest sporting charity platform in South India that brings about a social change through the Cubbon Park Rejuvenation Program and Madiwala Urban Forest.
Shri Rajendra Kumar Kataria, Secretary to Government Agriculture Department adds, “This run apart from just being a sports event, people from various welfare activities are coming forward to support this run. It’s not just a run, apart from 15000 – 20000 people coming on the road, apart from a health and fitness aspect, it’s also improving Brand Bangalore, Brand Karnataka and also adding to the economy as well”.
Procam International, the organizer of the event, today announced that registrations for the 2019 TCS World 10K run will begin from tomorrow 17 March 2019 and close on 26 April 2019 (or earlier depending on spots available).
The various categories open are
- Elite World 10K for Men and Women,
- 10K open category for amateur runners,
- 5km Majja run (now in the timed category),
- 4Km Senior Citizens run (above the age of 60) and
- Champions with a disability.
Attracting new runners and developing a fitter community has always been a top priority for the organizers (Procam International). Keeping in line with that vision, they have re-looked at the much-loved ‘Majja run’ and re-introduced it as a timed category where all the participants will be provided with personalized bibs, a timing chip as well as a finisher medal.
Puneet Rajkumar, a leading Kannada actor has long been the face of the event and this year, he urges Bengalureans to get out
there and #FeelthePride. He goes on to say, “The TCS World 10K over the years has encouraged a healthy lifestyle amongst all. But most importantly, the event has truly managed to bring the community together as a collective, a proud collective of hosts. It is this sense of belonging that we invite you to #FeelthePride in our city and call Bengaluru your home with pride.”
One of the defining aspects of the TCS World 10K race is its constant endeavour to be an environmentally friendly and 100% waste-managed race. Procam is tying up with HasiruDala Innovations, a social enterprise that will lead and advise on different eco-friendly alternatives to ensure efficient waste management. In addition, they will also handle last mile disposal and consequent recycling plans.
In 2019, the expected number of runners is expected to hit above 26,000 and personal bests aside, this year promises to see Bengalureans flood the streets and show off that they too #FeelthePride.
